Class of 2020

Alexandra Few is a writer, unashamed Netflix binger, and iced coffee connoisseur. She has an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Psychology and Communications from York University and is excited to continue blending these two passions within professional writing. With her experience in social media management, digital marketing, editing, and content writing (including numerous published articles), Alex hopes to continue to represent brands, connect to audiences, and generate conversations that will break barriers.

Alexa Greene is a professional writing student that graduated from King’s College University with a degree in English Literature and is now continuing her education at Centennial College. She possesses an inquisitive nature accompanied by an avid love of learning. She has a compassionate, and considerate demeanour stemming from her experience working in the animal care industry. While this work was extremely rewarding, her true passion lies in providing solutions, creating accessible material and affecting positive change through her writing. Looking toward the future, she hopes to focus this passion on technical writing.

Bianca Estrela is a creative and passionate professional writer and lifelong learner. After receiving an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 2014, Bianca continued developing her writing skills through enrolling in the Professional Writing program at Centennial College, and the Creative Writing program at UofT. Most days, you can find Bianca working on her Young Adult fantasy novel, reading everything she can get her hands on, walking her dog, or planning her next trip. Bianca hopes to use her love of the written word to promote the importance of education, and to inspire others to lead kinder, more thoughtful lives.

Bronwen Gill is the mother of two amazing children, who enjoys sushi, bootcamp workouts, and family time. After many years as a registered dietitian in public health, she is excited to finally embrace her creative side, becoming a communications specialist with a background in science and nutrition. With a master’s degree from the University of Toronto, Bronwen joined Centennial’s Communications – Professional Writing graduate program with the hope of combining her love of writing with her extensive knowledge of nutrition and health sciences. She sees herself writing several books, translating her accumulated knowledge into accessible formats for a variety of readers.

Bronwen’s nurturing disposition situates her perfectly for helping people, and gives her an ideal voice for crafting stories, helping voices be both heard and understood.

Caroline Chuang is an aspiring writer who would like to create content for a living, and not be known solely for her widely read Google restaurant reviews.  She joined the Communications Professional Writing Program in the hopes to become a content creator. Prepping a simple meal helps her de-stress and joining a yoga class improves her posture drastically.  She works part-time as a skincare advisor and lives up to her nickname, the “roadrunner” by hustling gracefully for sales.  The most important thing she’s learned from working in commission sales is integrity.  She gets inspired by Julia Child and Jann Arden, since they both pursued their passions and discovered success later in life.  She enjoys writing business related documents with her analytical skills, but is mostly bursting at the seams with creative ideas.

Fiona Murray is happiest when she can combine her interests in communication and social issues. She obtained a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (major in International Development and certificate in French) before enrolling at Centennial College. Currently, she is enjoying gaining the practical skills needed to communicate complex and pressing issues, from climate change to women’s rights. Although she has held a number of jobs in her life, the common thread has always been the importance of clear communication. She takes away something from each experience, whether she’s working at a reception desk, translating internal insurance documentation into French, or writing about the soybean harvest in Ghana.

Fiona would like to work in the non-profit sector and use her communication skills to help important issues reach wider audiences. When she’s not writing, Fiona is probably watching sitcoms or tackling her ever-growing to-read list.

Julia O’Leary is a sushi-loving, podcast-obsessed, travel enthusiast who is always up for a concert. Most days, you can find her watching Oscar-nominated films or tackling her “must reads” list. Writing is the first thing Julia remembers ever wanting to do when she grew up. Before Centennial, she graduated from Conestoga College in Broadcast Television, where she furthered her passion for the written word by focusing on script writing. Julia now hopes to take her love of writing into the freelance writing, editing, and proofreading field.

Melody Mancini is a meme enthusiast and avid dog admirer. After graduating from York University with a Bachelor of Arts in History, she spent some time working in retail, school administration and ski rentals. After being away from school for a few years, she decided she wasn’t done learning, which led her to Centennial College’s Professional Writing program. Melody is excited to enter the workforce to use her writing skills as a tool for connection in any field, from copywriting to technical writing.

Michelle De Berardinis completed her BA in History with Honours from Ryerson University in 2019. Particularly drawn to the humanities, Michelle has a love for history, philosophy and the human psyche as she loves thinking about how the world is shaped around her. Though wary of the rigid learning systems dictated by traditional school structures, she has a deep love of learning. Recently, she’s been teaching herself Italian, both an expression of her constant drive to learn as well as a way of connecting with her origins. Now, Michelle is studying Professional Writing at Centennial and aspires to apply her writing skills in the political sphere, where she can continue to shape the world around her.

Mohini Jaggan is a professional writing student who has graduated from York University with a degree in Communication Studies. Understanding the impact of clear communication on conveying an important message and how it can be leveraged to stimulate change in communities, Mohini has decided to continue her studies at Centennial College’s Professional Writing Program. When Mohini isn’t writing, she is capturing the world’s beauty through the lens of her camera.

Nayab Khokhar is a multi-faceted writer, communications specialist, and performer who grew up on a balanced diet of novels and Nintendo games. A self-professed introvert, he is nonetheless an enthusiastic public speaker. He’s honed his storytelling and improv skills as a Game Master for tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons. Nayab pivoted from Legal Studies at UOIT to the world of Communications and Media at Centennial College. He hopes to take his passion for the written word and use it to inspire others towards the goals of a kinder, more empathetic world. With an adaptive repertoire of writing styles, he has a variety of voices to suit his clients’ needs.

Rhett Desormeaux is an avid and passionate writer who has an extreme love for all things historical. Graduating from York University with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Media & Communication Studies in 2019, he enrolled at Centennial College in an effort to refine his writing abilities and help him find a direction. Usually found on his computer indulging in his love for video games or devouring historical texts of all types, Rhett hopes to find a successful career in copywriting, technical writing, or authorizing policy and procedure. He’s also endeavouring to teach himself German and Russian, although this is a mixed success. One day he hopes to save up enough to tour the world, especially Europe, and visit as many museums as he possibly can.

Sanchi Illuri a passionate communicator with skill as a public speaker and storyteller. She has sharp writing and critical thinking skills from her education at Bard College, where she studied Human Rights and Social Policy. Born in India and raised around the world, she moved to Toronto in 2017 and is excited by the city’s multiculturality and progressive mindset. Currently, she manages marketing and communications with ventureLAB, a non-profit tech startup accelerator. She aspires to use her career in communications to facilitate understanding and connectivity in her community. One of her proudest accomplishments is her work with Community Builders, where she helps youth develop their leadership skills while addressing oppression in their communities.

Tara Gregory is a professional writer and communications specialist, having long drawn inspiration from her rich and powerful dream world. Growing up, she developed a passion for Truth and Reconciliation work, and other social issues. With a degree in English and Indigenous Studies from Brock University, Tara worked for a time in the bridal industry, but realized that this was keeping her from her passions. She discovered her skill for translating complex information into clear, compelling written material. She enrolled in the Professional Writing program to develop a career where she can apply her sensitive nature to the clear adaptation of complex emotional and practical information.

Tara dreams of a beautiful world, and her adventurous spirit has taken her to many remote and distant places. She has traveled from reserves in Chibougamou to Waskaganish across the Broadback River rapids by canoe and has climbed glaciers in Iceland. Tara has seen more beauty than she could have ever hoped, and it is her dream to help preserve that beauty for generations to come, and for an eternity after that.

Umaire Effendi discovered his knack for storytelling at a young age, artfully talking himself out of trouble with his mother. Fueled by an adventurous spirit, he moved from Mumbai to Ontario to complete Business Administration & Marketing at Centennial College. He returned to India to work as a journalist, achieving two international publications, before starting a career as a copywriter and brand consultant in advertising. If Umaire isn’t coming up with some new theory about how things work, you’ll find him with his headphones on listening to podcasts, and multicultural music. Inspired by the likes of Jon Stewart, Douglas Adams, and Frank Herbert, Umaire wants to spread some laughter through the world by writing political and social satire. He’s currently preparing for film school.

Yasmin Ahmed is a professional writer with a background in biomedical sciences and many creative pursuits. She has worked as an educator, facilitating programs in STEM engagement for youth, dabbled in basic science research and has a passion for advocacy. Professional writing in the field of medicine and healthcare bridges her love for the written word and communication, with that of health access. Yasmin has aspirations of a career in both community and global health initiatives, working with passionate collaborators in a team.

If she’s not pouring over British Vogue, Yasmin can be found combing through the newest fantasy novel, immersed in another realm. She breathes fashion, tries out photography and loves new experiences: whether it’s travelling to a different city or tackling an old fear, with enthusiasm.
